Aesthetics and the Algorithm

Aesthetics & Algorithm
Lately, I’ve felt inspired to create things for social media. I recreated this look inspired by Solange Knowles. I love the artwork and images I took for this project. However, because the algorithm is working over time on Instagram, a lot of my followers have not even seen the post. I then create a sponsored post in hopes my photos will reach a broader audience so my post can be seen and appreciated. I’ve been frustrated about the algorithm because Instagram is becoming a video based platform now. If you’re not creating reels, then your posts are really not even being seen. It’s confusing because Instagram started as an app for photography and now it’s mimicking Tik Tok. The pressure of curating a beautiful aesthetic is also a thing. Creating content has become a full-time job. If you’re not careful the fun of creating will be taken away. I don’t want to lose the fun out of creating and being a creative.

Hair clips idea
Originally I wanted to recreate Solange’s A Seat At The Table album cover by putting my own spin on it. There’s an old photo of me when I was a pre teen with long hair and multi colored hair clips. Because I could never find said photo I decided to create recent images of myself using that same idea. I love the way it all turned out!! I love it so much I decided to write and share here.
