Surviving After A Loss
This week has been the hardest week I've had in awhile. I lost my childhood friend. We grew up together in Westend, Al. She passed away unexpectedly after collapsing at work. The news was tough to grasp and nearly impossible to comprehend. This was my friend but my sister's best friend. My sister has really taken the news badly. It really rocked her world. The grief process will not be easy. But going forward I know deep down it gets better. I have personally felt physically and emotionally drained since receiving the news, yet I have been emotionally supportive to my sister and my dear friend's family. So far I have visited my friend's family twice this week and it has been a joy to fellowship in this time of sorrow. In a few days I will have to say goodbye to my dear friend and I am not mentally or emotionally prepared.
I have found coping mechanisms to get me through this time, self-care comes in many forms nowadays: plenty of rest, food, writing, reading, journaling, creativity, photography and social media.
Besides grief, I have encountered another roadblock pursuing my degree. I recently learned there are a few more steps I have to take before I am officially enrolled in school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham for the Fall term. This morning I made a cup of coffee and got to work on the necessary paperwork I need to help me in this process. School can be a grueling task at times but I know in my heart this sacrifice will be so worth it in the end.
I haven't blogged in awhile and I wanted to update you on what's been going on in my world. I hope to write again soon, until next time. **
