Tyra Banks is an American model, television personality, talk show host, producer, author, actress, singer and business woman. She began her modeling career at age 15. She became the first African American woman to grace the cover of GQ magazine and Sports Illustrated Swim Suit issue. Tyra is an original Victoria Secret Angel, she has modeled overseas for big time designers and in the early 2000s she became one of the top paid models in the world. Tyra later merged into acting and booked television shows such as The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Gossip girl then she evolved into film in Life-Size and Love and Basketball to name a few. In 2003 America's Next Top Model (ANTM) was birthed and first aired on UPN and later The CW. Today the 41 year old continues her talk show host  career on the daytime talk show FAB Life.

America's Next Top Model (ANTM) 

 

ANTM premiered on May 20, 2003 on the UPN network and later changed to The CW in 2006. America's Next Top Model is a reality television series and interactive competition. A number of aspiring models would audition for a spot in hoping to win the title of America's Next Top Model. The contestants would interact with each other and participated in various challenges and photo shoots which they were judged on each week. They learned how to act, do commercial modeling, go-sees, learning to walk the runway, book jobs for potential agencies, how to work the camera facial expressions/angle towards the camera etc. As a fan of the show I've learned so much about the modeling world and how things work. I enjoyed each cycle that I was able to watch and I think this was a very successful series as ANTM comes to an end after 22 cycles-insane!!!!

 

Creative:

 

Each season Tyra and the group of selected judges were so creative with the photo shoot challenges, the theme of each shoot, hair & makeup and photography. To be honest the makeovers/photo shoot challenges were my favorite things to watch. Then there were Tyra mail, they got a chance to travel the world and live in really cool homes decorated in the most creative and fun ways you could think of. The décor was so beautiful each season advancing as technology advanced. So cool to watch and learn.

Winners/Opportunities:

Some of the winners were Eva Pigford, Ya ya Da Costa, Melrose Bickerstiff, Bre Scullark, and Tacarra Jones. Prizes: A spread in Marie Claire magazine, Cover girl ad, Modeling contract and the title as the American Top Model Winner. (These prizes changed over time) A lot of the winners merged into acting and film.

Each judge played some sort of major role in fashion whether its a photographer, creative director, retired models, runway coach. Each played a part in fashion and the business which helped Tyra to better navigate her choice as to who stays and goes in the competition.
